Fortitude Drinks acquires Penrhos Spirits portfolio

Fortitude Drinks UK secures exclusive UK distribution for Penrhos Spirits. The Herefordshire distillery, known for its sustainability-driven approach, joins Fortitude’s expanding portfolio. Penrhos, a pioneer in using 100% recycled aluminium bottles, strengthens Fortitude’s market position with its innovative packaging and commitment to reducing food waste.

Fortitude Drinks UK has secured exclusive UK distribution for Penrhos Spirits, expanding its portfolio of premium, purpose-driven brands. The Herefordshire-based distillery, founded on a family fruit farm, is celebrated for transforming surplus “wonky fruit” into high-quality spirits. This sustainability-led initiative has positioned Penrhos as a respected name in the UK’s craft gin sector, renowned for both flavour and environmental stewardship.

In 2023, Penrhos made headlines by becoming the first distillery globally to transition from glass to 100% recycled aluminium bottles. This strategic shift, which reduced its packaging carbon footprint by 91%, has set a new standard in sustainable spirits packaging. The lightweight, durable, and infinitely recyclable bottles have facilitated national retail listings, including with Sainsbury’s for their London Dry Gin.

Penrhos’ product range includes the award-winning Dry Gin, Rhubarb, Apple & Elderflower, Wonky Raspberry, and Wonky Strawberry gins, all crafted in small batches within a converted cattle shed on the farm. Fortitude Drinks champions brands that introduce genuine innovation and compelling narratives to the UK spirits market. Penrhos fits this mould precisely, blending provenance, sustainability, and exceptional quality. Its focus on food-waste reduction and pioneering packaging provides a strong, consumer-ready story that appeals to both retail and hospitality sectors.

Joining Fortitude’s rapidly growing collection of distinctive brands, Penrhos contributes to the company’s robust performance this year. Fortitude has added ten partner brands over the past six months, achieving 22% growth and over 3,000 new distribution points. Paul Cornell, brands director at Fortitude Spirits, remarked, “We are thrilled that Penrhos has joined us at Fortitude. It is a fantastic gin, with a truly unique proposition. With Penrhos, its wonky fruit story and innovative aluminium bottle on board, we have no doubt 2026 will be even stronger.”
