Under a new agreement spanning 2026 to 2029, Exel Composites will supply Tratos with composite conductor cores, committing to a minimum volume worth at least €22 million. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for grid investments, focusing on energy transition applications through continuous manufacturing and reliable quality.
Paul Sohlberg, President and CEO of Exel Composites, stated, “Tratos is a leading player in advanced cabling solutions, and we are pleased to build on and further expand our cooperation in composite conductor cores.” Albano Bragagni, President of Tratos, added, “Working with Exel Composites helps us secure composite cores for our conductor programs through 2029. This supports our customers’ planning for grid upgrades by enabling higher capacity and improved transmission efficiency.”
Composite conductor cores, central to overhead transmission conductors, are increasingly utilised in carbon fibre composites. They offer high tensile strength and low linear expansion, supporting high-temperature, low-sag operations. These designs also provide corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, allowing operators to boost capacity on existing lines using current towers.
Tratos will incorporate Exel’s composite solutions into its conductor offerings, utilising multistrand carbon fibre composite core technology. Exel will produce these cores through continuous pultrusion and quality-controlled processes, ensuring consistent mechanical performance. Fulfilment will occur from Exel’s global manufacturing network, adhering to project schedules agreed with Tratos.
