Europe’s TSOs commit to synchronising with Ukraine and Moldova power systems
Europe’s TSOs via ENTSO-E have said they are focused on identifying the key conditions to support electricity supply to Ukraine as a matter of priority.
ENTSO-E has reported that the continental transmission system operators (TSOs) received an urgent request on 27 February from the Ukrainian TSO, Ukrenergo, for an emergency synchronisation of the Ukrainian power system, including the Burshtyn island, with the Continental Europe power system.
This was followed on the following day with a request from the Moldovan TSO, Moldelectrica, for emergency synchronisation in line with the Ukrenergo request.

ENTSO-E states that identification of the conditions for urgent synchronisation will include an assessment of protection and dynamic stability, operations and markets, legal and regulatory and information technology including cybersecurity.
ENTSO-E notes that at the Energy Council meeting on 28 February, member states underlined the importance of enabling the emergency synchronisation of the Ukrainian power grid to the power grid of Continental Europe and the need to consider the impact on Republic of Moldova.
ENTSO-E says that it and its member TSOs understand the urgency to address the request while ensuring the security and stability of the Continental European power system.
On behalf of ENTSO-E and its member TSOs, the Board of ENTSO-E acknowledges the exceptional efforts of Ukrenergo to operate and maintain the power system in these difficult times and will continue to support their efforts, a statement reads.
Ukrenergo has reported that as of midday on 2 March, the power system of Ukraine is operating in a stable autonomous mode. The consumption level is 13.9GW and the power grid frequency is controlled at 50Hz.
Currently, there are no reasons to forcibly or voluntarily reduce electricity consumption – the power system of Ukraine produces enough energy, the TSO has stated.
