Mark Carnaghan, managing director of Eurofins Food and Water Testing UK & Ireland

Eurofins Food and Water Testing UK & Ireland is strengthening its commitment to the fishing industry after winning a contract to provide the full suite of microbiology and chemistry testing on Young’s Seafood products in England.

As one of the country’s largest and oldest seafood businesses dating back to 1805, Young’s Seafood Ltd has announced the pioneering partnership with Eurofins’s specialist microbiology and chemistry labs in Grimsby and Wolverhampton respectively.

Speaking of his pride to be partnering with an iconic and much-loved brand, Mark Carnaghan, managing director of Eurofins Food and Water Testing UK & Ireland said: “With Young’s Seafood supplying approximately 40% of all of the fish eaten in the UK, selecting to work with us is absolutely testament to the quality and breadth of knowledge and testing capability at our labs.”

Specialising in food microbiology, Eurofins’s Grimsby lab will additionally oversee the partnership and work closely with individual Young’s Seafood sites across the region. The customer services team will coordinate chemistry tests, including pesticides, contaminants, mycotoxins, allergens, and nutritional testing, with the specialist chemistry lab at Eurofins Wolverhampton.

Carnaghan added: “As a business we’re committed to improving food safety and food authenticity, and in cementing our presence in the region – a vision we’re proud to share with Young’s and fellow members of the Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance.”

Young’s Seafood is one of the businesses involved in the Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance, which directly employs over 5,500 people and secures over 10,000 jobs across the supply chain.
