Enel supports Ukrainian refugee reception centres with free grid connections

Electricity and gas manufacturer and distributor Enel is donating grid connections through the “Allacciamo le Energie” (“We connect energy”) project in Italy.

The project connects the reception facilities for Ukrainian refugees, managed by Italy’s Civil Protection Department and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to the grid.

The Group is donating connections to its electricity grid for increases in power for the reception facilities, including temporary ones, that have been set up to manage the crisis.

The connection of six structures has already been completed, for a total power of 132kW: three in Liguria (Genoa, Imperia and Savona), two in Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Udine and Trieste) and one in Basilicata (Potenza).

Requests for connection by interested parties can be sent to the regional civil protection department, which will then forward them to Enel.

This is the most recent initiative by Enel to mitigate the effects of the war and humanitarian emergency happening in Ukraine.

Employee fundraising

Earlier in May, it was announced that the Group’s fundraising campaign, which was launched in March for those working in support of the UNHCR and Save the Children, had concluded.

Enel Cuore, Enel’s non-profit organisation that has been involved in supporting initiatives in favour of vulnerable and disadvantaged people, reportedly matched each donation made by colleagues to one or both associations during the two-week campaign.

Through the initiative, UNHCR and Save the Children collected a total of one million euros (one million dollars).

The two associations are already carrying out various humanitarian actions put in place to respond to the needs of refugees and displaced persons in the country and surrounding countries.

The initiative will support the activities aimed at dealing with the humanitarian emergency in Ukraine.
