Enel signs deal to drive energy sustainability in airport industry
A new deal signed between Enel Italia and Aeroporti di Roma aims to accelerate the development of innovative, sustainable energy technologies and drive the digital transformation of the airport industry.
Aeroporti di Roma, which manages the Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, will leverage the collaboration to achieve its digitalisation, energy security, innovation, and environmental sustainability goals.
The collaboration with Enel follows Aeroporti di Roma increasing its focus on digital transformation and sustainability, developments that have led to the company’s terminals being Italy’s and Europe’s best in the past three years.

The partnership will enable Aeroporti di Roma to move closer to its 2030 net-zero emissions target.
Marco Troncone, Managing Director of Aeroporti di Roma, said the partnership will help the “relaunch of the airport sector so hard hit by the pandemic.”
Carlo Tamburi, Director of Enel Italia added: “We will be able to share technological and innovative solutions in a fundamental sector such as airports, creating synergies that can support the strategic relaunch of the sector and the country in a sustainable manner.”
In addition to sharing internal expertise in the field of technology innovation, Enel and Aeroporti di Roma will also seek international partnerships. Smart and sustainable solutions to be developed as part of the collaboration will enable the two companies to achieve the growth of their businesses and of the Italian economy at large.
Areas the partnership will focus on include renewable energy sources, energy efficiency initiatives and flexibility and sustainable mobility services.
