encoord updates energy modelling platform

The US and Germany-based energy software startup encoord has launched an updated version of its SAInt electricity and gas network modelling software.

The Scenario Analysis Interface for Energy Systems (SAInt) is a software platform that models both independent and coupled energy networks and markets in order to inform strategies, for example for investment, reliability and decarbonisation.

SAInt is designed to enable users to quantify and analyse the interdependencies and synergies between electricity and gas networks and to plan their integration and coordination.

Physical simulations and optimisation models allow quantifying of the trade-offs between cost and reliability and studying the intersection of the markets and physical networks.

“We see SAInt 3.0 as the foundation of the future reference modelling software for energy networks and markets,” says Carlo Brancucci, co-founder and CEO of encoord.

“Given the growing complexity of energy systems and ambitious decarbonisation goals, decision-makers face new challenges. Our solution is to provide a flexible and versatile modelling platform that empowers them to make strategic decisions, reduce costs, enhance reliability and enable pathways towards decarbonisation.”

SAInt is built on a modular design and offers a flexible application programming interface (API) to support integration with existing decision making processes.

With sector integration and the introduction of new energy vectors such as hydrogen in the networks, such co-dependent modelling is becoming an increasingly important requirement for energy planners for the years ahead.

Alongside the launch of SAInt 3.0, encoord has announced a $2.4 million investment to ensure its continued growth, following a doubling of the headcount in its US and European offices in 2021.
