Edge systems for enhanced water operations
Novotek UK and Ireland, an expert in automation and control systems for the water utilities sector, will be showcasing the latest edge control and computing technologies at the virtual Water Equipment Show on May 12–13, 2021. The company will highlight how these new technologies support more advanced analysis and optimisation of water and wastewater assets and processes, helping operators to stay ahead of market challenges. Registration for the event is open on the Water Equipment Show website.
The portfolio of products that Novotek will feature during the event are built around the latest products from its partners, such as Emerson Automation. These edge control and computing systems are ruggedised to meet the environmental conditions in the water industry, while boasting high processing power and data security.
The greater performance of the latest edge technologies allows water companies to not only improve existing processes, but to introduce new capabilities at the edge. Novotek UK and Ireland will be highlighting these potential new capabilities during the Water Equipment Show.
“Many traditional edge deployments have focussed either on logic-based control loops or application-based data collection, analysis and communication,” says David Evanson, corporate vendor relationship manager at Novotek UK and Ireland. “This approach can be difficult to scale and expensive to implement, which is a limitation of older edge technologies. Newer products have overcome these barriers, and that’s what we want to highlight at the Water Equipment Show.
“Modern edge control and computing technologies are able to combine real-time logic control with application-based data analysis functionality. One prime example is Emerson’s RX3i CPL410 edge controller. This uses hypervisor technology to support an ‘outer loop’ — sharing of machine data with external data and systems — alongside the inner loop of real-time deterministic control processes, without impacting performance of control functionality.
“Bringing edge data analytics together with real-time control helps drive new insights while providing built-in flexibility, operational efficiency and higher asset performance. This is something that can provide significant value to water companies.”
Novotek UK and Ireland has extensive experience of supporting water companies, both in the utilities market and in the engineering space. Novotek’s portfolio and expertise is able to help water businesses to achieve core operational objectives such as energy optimisation and improved asset reliability.
More information about how Novotek can support water and wastewater businesses, as well as the company’s specific offerings into the market, will be available on Novotek’s virtual stand at the Water Equipment Show from May 12–13, 2021. Registration for the event is open here.
