Portuguese distribution system operator E-REDES has inaugurated an electrical network training park at Latino Coelho Secondary School in Lamego to train the network engineers of tomorrow.
The project is the result of a partnership between E-REDES and Eletrificadora Douro Sul (EDS) and aims to support the skills training of young people in the context of the energy transition.
The project, part of the ‘Incluir para Iluminar’ (Include to Illuminate) programme, represents an important step in the preparation of young people attending the Electrical Network Technician course – a necessary requirement to join the energy sector after completing the 12th grade.
In addition to the future implementation of a medium voltage network, the park has been equipped with electric poles, distribution cabinets and aerial and underground cabling.

There are currently 125 high school students from nine schools benefiting from the Incluir para Iluminar programme, which also provides for the formal appointment of tutors from the organisation who are responsible for solving challenges in the schools, speeding up solutions and preparing the students for the 600 hours of internship guaranteed by E-REDES.
The Incluir para Iluminar programne aims to complement the educational offering for young people attending professional secondary education courses, contributing to their integration into the job market.
It consists of the training of technical skills and their practical application, through the Work Context Training component, which is integrated into the Electrical Network Technician Professional course.
The Park’s inauguration ceremony was attended by Ângelo Sarmento, director of E-REDES, Luís Sérgio Quinteira, advisor to the medium voltage and low voltage Asset Service Department and the school’s E-REDES tutor, Francisco Lopes, Mayor of Lamego, and José Martins Rocha, Director of the School Group.
