US-based tech company Honeywell and DTEK have announced a strategic agreement to deploy battery storage technology, modular refining and gas processing solutions in Ukraine.
The announcement is one of the latest to come from DTEK, the largest private investor in Ukraine’s energy system, to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure resilience and advancement in response to the war in Ukraine.
The companies’ memorandum for strategic collaboration, signed at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin this week, provides a framework to help strengthen Ukraine’s energy generation, expand DTEK’s battery storage capabilities and implement Honeywell’s solutions.
The companies will work together to advance Ukraine’s energy independence, automation and transition to renewable energy sources.
Specifically, under the terms of the memorandum, DTEK and Honeywell agreed to explore opportunities for:
- The fast-track restoration and maximisation of DTEK’s energy generation capabilities that have been damaged in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
- Deployment of Honeywell’s battery energy storage systems.
- Deployment of Honeywell’s advanced modular refining and modular gas processing solutions. The companies will also work together on supporting DTEK’s overall long-term energy transition strategy by offering solutions to optimise and decarbonise energy production.

Honeywell will also support DTEK in assessing Ukraine’s critical energy requirements and provide recommendations to fast-track the maximisation of the country’s infrastructure, including opportunities to deploy its BESS technology alongside DTEK’s existing battery storage assets.
Honeywell’s BESS includes a portfolio of technologies to automate and manage the storage and provision of energy into a microgrid or national grid network. It is a critical solution for the grid-scale management of power distribution, including from renewable sources.
According to Honeywell, their lithium-ion based batteries have scalable capacity from 500KWh to 4GWh, at both front and behind the meter, an energy management system to enable the extention of distributed energy assets and support critical loads, as well as the ability to act as backup power.
Commenting on the signing in a release was Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK: “Large-scale international partnerships are fundamental to Ukraine’s recovery and our announcement today serves as an example that actions, rather than words, are what Ukraine needs right now.
“Our energy system is under attack like never before, and I deeply appreciate Honeywell for its steadfast support to both rebuild and create a new energy system. I am confident that expanding cooperation with Honeywell will mark a new phase in Ukraine’s recovery process and bolster its energy security and our economic potential.”
Added Przemek Szuder, president Central and Eastern Europe for Honeywell: “Under the alignment of our portfolio to three global megatrends that include automation and energy transition…Honeywell is pioneering technologies that are accelerating the transition and automation of the energy sector.
“We are committed to supporting the immediate needs of the industry today, from resilience to optimisation, and are pleased to extend our valued collaboration with DTEK to jointly explore new ways to support Ukraine’s current and long-term energy needs.”
Earlier this week, DTEK and Schneider Electric announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bring innovative energy solutions to Ukraine with a focus on smart infrastructure, grid modernisation, digitisation and industry solutions.
