DTEK and GE Vernova partner on restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure

Ukraine’s DTEK Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GE Vernova at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which took place in Berlin, Germany, this week.

The agreement was signed by DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko and Viktor Kamyshev, general manager of GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business, to facilitate the deployment of green energy and grid modernisation initiatives across Ukraine.

The MoU will focus on:

• Grid solutions aimed at modernizing Ukraine’s electricity grid to enhance supply reliability, minimize energy losses, and create a more flexible future-proofed network;

• Wind power projects in Ukraine and the European Union and implementation of the associated grid infrastructure to connect these projects;

• Projects to provide emergency power to Ukraine, such as open cycle gas turbines (OCGTs);

• Long-term power generation solutions, such as combined cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) to ensure the reliability and flexibility of the Ukrainian power system.

DTEK and GE Vernova have worked together previously, having commissioned the 200MW Prymorska wind farm near Zaporizhzhia in 2019.

The agreement was signed during the third edition of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, an annual series of high-level political events dedicated to the recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine, which started after Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Governments, international organisations, financial institutions, businesses, regions, municipalities and civil society came together to boost Ukraine’s resilience. The key goal of the URC2024 in Berlin was to mobilise continued international support and assistance for immediate needs, rapid recovery projects and creating attractive conditions for businesses to unlock private sector investments.

The conference has yielded several agreements over and above that were signed with GE Vernova. An agreement was signed with tech developer Schneider Electric for projects to enhance energy efficiency, ensure supply reliability and promote sustainable energy across Ukraine.

Also, an agreement was signed between DTEK and US-based tech company Honeywell for the deployment of battery storage technology, modular refining and gas processing solutions in Ukraine.
