DEWA analytics platform to enhance smart meter management

As part of its smart grid programme, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched a big data and analytics platform with the aim of improving operations and management of the utility’s assets and smart meters.

According to DEWA, their latest platform integrates smart grid applications and operational technologies to support the processing of large amounts of data while providing fact-based analytics and forecasting for their current and future projects.

“DEWA’s smart grid programme…with a total investment of AED7 billion (USD1.9 billion), is a key component of our strategy to develop an advanced infrastructure that supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050,” commented HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA.

The release comes in as the utility launches its Smart Grid Data Governance platform to ensure compliance with data policies and procedures.

The platform manages data as an asset and defines and approves data strategies, policies, standards, procedures and metrics. DEWA has stated their hope that this will promote best practices in accountability, decision-making, data management and stewardship.

Through the launch of the two platforms, DEWA is looking to ensure data security. Moreover, they will contribute to providing data analysis of the ‘Green Charger’ stations for the utility’s registered electric vehicles, enabling the display of stations geospatially and providing a record of maintenance work.

The infrastructure company has also earlier this year developed numerous programmes in an efficiency drive, including software to augment electricity distribution networks and an artificial intelligence (AI)-based programme to enhance the country’s water network.
