CyanConnode, a provider of narrowband radio frequency (RF) smart mesh networks based in Cambridge, UK, has been awarded a contract for the supply of 6.5 million communication modules for smart metering in India.

According to CyanConnode in a release, the smart metering contract marks the company’s largest order to date and strengthens its position as a key player in India’s ambitious smart metering rollout.

The contract includes the supply of Omnimesh Modules, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), Standards-Based Hardware, Omnimesh Head-End Software, a Perpetual License and a comprehensive Support and Maintenance Contract.

The smart metering projects associated with the contract are spread across various locations in India, with the supply of modules expected to begin in the second half of FY25.

The installation phase for each project is projected to be completed within 27 months, followed by a 93-month Support and Maintenance period. Financial details of the contract have not been disclosed.

CyanConnode says the Letter of Award (LOA) has been received from a global partner, who has not been named.

Commenting in a release was John Cronin, executive chairman of CyanConnode Holdings plc, who said: “I am delighted to announce CyanConnode’s largest order to date from a global partner, with whom we have successfully collaborated on various projects over the years.

“This order nearly doubles our order book for India, increasing it from 6.6 million units to 13.1 million units, and solidifies our position in India’s nationwide smart metering rollout.”

Cyan Connode’s LOA win follows the announcement of a two million communication endpoint milestone in the country earlier this year in August.

Specifically, the company counts successful implementation in 10 Indian states, including Assam, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Among these is a rollout with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), for which the company has been awarded the SKOCH consulting group’s gold award in the power and energy category.
