Coveris’ ‘No Waste’ vision was honoured with a Green Packaging Star Award thanks to its sustainable solutions and a strong focus on resource conservation.
On Thursday 29th September 2022, Coveris won the prestigious Green Packaging Star Award in the Environmentally Friendly Corporate Strategy category.
The packaging company has built its entire sustainability strategy around its vision of No Waste – no product waste, no packaging waste, and no operational waste – focusing extensively on resource conservation. Coveris already produces packaging incorporating recycled content, material-saving lightweight solutions, as well as a wide range of easy recyclable monomaterials. Additionally, the packaging manufacturer is aiming to run all production sites with renewable energy.
Two further nominations for innovative packaging solutions
Coveris’ relentless commitment to minimising the environmental impact of its products is visible through its latest product innovations. Recognising this, two of Coveris’ packaging technologies were also finalists in this year’s Green Packaging Star Awards: PaperBarrier Seal and MonoFlex.
The sustainable PaperBarrier Seal solution was shortlisted in the Environmentally Friendly Product category. Launched in 2021, this innovative packaging is a fully recyclable high-performance packaging that provides a barrier against moisture, oxygen, grease and mineral oil.
To counteract multilayer packaging’s recycling problem, Coveris developed the MonoFlex product line. Made from monomaterial, this packaging is fully recyclable, without compromising on quality. This product innovation secured a spot among the finalists in the Solution for Food Protection category.
The Green Packaging Star Awards have been held annually since 2008 and are presented by the magazine Kompack and the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology. This year’s award ceremony took place at the trade show, FachPack, in Nuremberg, Germany from 27th to 29th September 2022.
The annual Green Packaging Star Awards celebrate sustainable packaging solutions, as well as packaging-related innovations in the operational process. Across four categories, the most environmentally friendly products, best company philosophies and production processes in the packaging industry are honoured.
Christian Kolarik, Coveris Group’s chief operating officer, said the company is thrilled that its sustainability strategy was recognised with a Green Star Packaging Award.
“We are convinced that we are making an important contribution to protecting our climate with our No Waste vision, which is characterised by an approach in two dimensions: On one hand avoidance of product waste, packaging waste and operational waste and on the other hand the involvement of the entire Coveris organisation from the shop floor via the group-wide Green Teams, to the management level and executive board,” Kolarik said. “The award we received and the fact that two other Coveris products were among the finalists makes us very proud. This is an award for our employees as, after all, they are working every day to make our vision of a more sustainable future a reality”
