One of our products, fiber-reinforced Foamed Urethane (FFU) Synthetic Sleepers was invented in a partnership with the Railway Technical Research Institute (Tokyo, Japan) in 1980. FFU Synthetic Sleepers are produced with the aim of timber sleeper replacement, so its characteristics are similar to timber sleepers; lightweight, strong, durable, and easy to work with. At the same time, since it is a synthetic material it has the advantages of plastic such as no water absorption, free from corrosion, and excellent chemical resistance. With the regulation of preservative chemicals on treated timber sleepers and growing concern for environmental protection, our product is the solution for railway operators for their track maintenance materials.
FFU Synthetic Sleepers has been supplied to over 30 countries and we are aiming to expand more through our technology and 40 years of experience in this field.

The main areas of use are the highly stressed track sections such as switches and bridges.
The high technical parameters and the machinability like wood enable flexible use on the track. With a weight below that of wood and a durability of over 50 years according to the RTR Institute in Tokyo, FFU® synthetic sleepers are the permanent solution to the challenges in railway superstructures.
New Factory – Roermond, Netherlands
SEKISUI FFU Railway Technology factory is dedicated to manufacturing ever more local and sustainable products, and supporting Rail companies across the UK and Europe! Previously, customers received sleepers from the factory in Japan, but with the opening of the factory in Roermond in 2023, not only has the capacity increased due to several new orders to support projects but the delivery time has also been shortened considerably.
