Cinema Boosts Leisure Work for JPG
JPG Group, a civil and structural engineering company, is set to provide consultancy services for the delivery of a new cinema and leisure complex at Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Huddersfield.
WD (Kingsgate) Limited, the owners of Kingsgate, have confirmed the start on site plans to help deliver the £7 million scheme, after agreeing a 25-year lease with independent British cinema chain, The Light. It is intending to redevelop the existing House of Fraser store to deliver two floors of leisure space, including a bowling alley with bars and restaurant units on the ground floor, with a new upper level dedicated to a six-screen cinema attraction.
David Allwood, Director at JPG Group, said: “We are pleased to secure this project on the back of our existing credentials in cinema feasibility. This type of installation requires a very bespoke assessment due to the acoustic and vibration isolation requirements and this is intrinsically linked to the overall design, materials specification and construction as well as the internal interface.”
Peter Everest of WD (Kingsgate) Limited commented: “I am looking forward to working with JPG and the team led by Covell Matthews Architects to deliver a truly transformative development for the people of Huddersfield and the whole of Kirklees.”
Working in partnership with quantity surveyors Richard Boothroyd Associates (RBA) and NU Construction, the team will start construction on the site in early 2022.
