CEL Critical Power, the Ireland-based provider of switchgear and power solutions for the global data centre industry, has inaugurated its first US manufacturing facility in Williamsburg, Virginia. This 400,000-square-foot assembly plant, operational since June, signifies a substantial $40 million investment. The facility is a pivotal element of CEL’s international growth strategy, enhancing its ability to serve strategic customers in the burgeoning US AI and Cloud infrastructure market.
The expansion is set to generate over 250 skilled jobs within the next year, with projections to double this figure by 2030. This growth aligns with CEL Critical Power’s ambition to reach $500 million in annual revenue by the end of the decade, supported by its expanding manufacturing footprint in Ireland. With the Virginia facility, the company’s global production capacity now exceeds 500,000 square feet, positioning it to meet the sustained demand from leading data centre clients.
Central to CEL’s US expansion is its collaboration with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and its registration with the US Department of Defense Skillbridge program, in conjunction with Naval Station Norfolk and regional alliances. This initiative offers active-duty service members and US military veterans the opportunity to transition into civilian roles at CEL Critical Power, contributing to the company’s skilled workforce.
CEL Critical Power’s engineering prowess and manufacturing expertise enable the production of PDUs, Remote Power Panels, and switchgear systems with leading cycle times and quality standards. The company’s customer-centric approach and design-for-manufacture philosophy ensure operational reliability and program certainty, meeting the evolving demands of AI compute workloads.
Niall McFadden, Group CEO of CEL Critical Power, stated, “The opening of our first US manufacturing facility is a significant step in our growth strategy. We understand our customers’ need for scalable, quality partners in the US. This strategic expansion, with a $40 million investment, underscores our commitment to supporting customers in this critical market.”
Alan McCartney, Chief Sales Officer, highlighted the company’s response to increasing demands, “As a designer and manufacturer of custom power solutions, CEL Critical Power is expanding to meet the needs of AI and cloud infrastructure investments. Our capacity to deploy solutions at scale supports the emerging Neo-Cloud sector and next-generation AI technologies.”
Graham Carr, VP of Sales, North America, emphasized the company’s investment in Virginia, noting the collaboration with VEDP and the DoD SkillBridge program. “By creating career pathways for military veterans, we strengthen the local economy and contribute to Virginia’s thriving technology sector, which offers an excellent supply chain ecosystem and a robust pool of technical talent.”
