Candela starts production of C-8 day cruiser

Production is now underway for Candela’s C-8 electric day cruiser, which recently set a 24-hour range record for electric boats with a prototype.

The electric hydrofoil, which is powered by Polestar technology, is designed and built by the Swedish company at its Stockholm factory.

The Polestar-powered version of the C-8, which was announced in January, uses the same 69kWh battery pack and DC fast-charging technology as the Polestar 2 (standard range, single-motor version). This partnership sees the two Swedish companies pooling resources and expertise to accelerate the shift to a more sustainable electric mobility.

The C-8 has an electric range of up to 57 nautical miles at 22kts, and is capable of utilizing marine DC charging networks being built out in the USA and Europe.

“Marine DC charging coupled with our hydrofoil technology’s long electric range will introduce new ways to explore on coastlines and archipelagos. Whereas cruising nautical miles in a day in a petrol-powered boat is challenging due to noise and slamming, it’s not only doable but very enjoyable in a C-8,” said Niklas Nordin, chief product officer at Candela.

The Polestar-powered C-8 can cruise at speeds up to 27kts and recharge its battery in only 35 minutes via DC charging. The vessel is available in three versions – as an open day cruiser, a weather-sheltered hard top and a T-Top model for sunny climates.
