BW Packaging, the packaging machinery division of Barry-Wehmiller, has introduced the Hayssen X850, a multi-jaw flow wrapper engineered to deliver superior seal integrity at high speeds for challenging food products. This innovation is poised to replace the long-established Hayssen RT model, a mainstay in the block and sliced cheese sector for nearly seven decades.
The Hayssen X850 is the result of extensive customer feedback, focusing on maximising throughput and enhancing the operator experience. It boasts the capability to process up to 300 packs per minute, maintaining over one second of dwell time to ensure the high seal integrity required for sensitive dairy and food applications.
Jim Kolmus, Vice President of Innovation at BW Packaging, remarked, “The Hayssen X850 was designed to build upon the strong foundation of our previous Hayssen RT model. The X850’s ability to detect and clear product jams without stopping the line significantly boosts overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).”
The machine’s unique selling points include a patented individual ring technology and a quick-release jaw design, positioning it as a distinctive solution in the current market. Additionally, it features technology aimed at modernising line management and reducing labour costs.
Brantley Turner, Senior Product Manager at BW Packaging, highlighted the machine’s dual focus on power and intelligence. “The Hayssen X850 has both brawn and brains,” Turner stated. “With RFID login and advanced OpView HMI standard on every machine, operation is made simple for any operator.”
Benefits for line operators and maintenance teams are notable. The servo jaw control minimises wear, reducing maintenance time, and the overall design significantly cuts down the number of tasks and time needed for routine maintenance. Additionally, a refined film unwind system allows operators to fine-tune film tracking easily, simplifying film loading and reducing downtime further.
The X850 is constructed with a stainless steel frame for IP66 washdown capability and features hygienic sloped surfaces, meeting the stringent sanitation requirements of today’s food and dairy manufacturers. Its independent temperature control accommodates a wide range of films and zippers, including emerging recyclable materials, addressing the industry’s sustainability initiatives.
For generations, cheese manufacturers have relied on Hayssen, a trusted brand within the BW Packaging portfolio. The X850 is set to continue that legacy, offering a platform that delivers performance, dependability, and comprehensive support for parts, service, and upgrades.
