Brisbane to host Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in 2024
Sustainable Energy Council announced the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2024 will be held in Brisbane, Queensland on 12-13 September 2024. This year’s event will be held in partnership with the Australian Hydrogen Council, supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission and Queensland Government.
Following a successful inaugural event in 2023, it is expected more than 3,000 industry leaders and 150 exhibitors from across the value chain will converge in Brisbane to showcase the latest technology, discuss new policies in place and analyse upcoming projects in the hydrogen space.
Uniting government and industry to accelerate hydrogen development, this event hosts global leaders from across the value chain, including hydrogen stakeholders, government officials and policy makers.
Australian Hydrogen Council CEO, Dr Fiona Simon said: “We are proud to be partnering with the Sustainable Energy Council again to deliver the largest hydrogen event in the Asia Pacific region, and excited to bring it to Queensland where there are significant hydrogen projects underway including the progression of hydrogen hub projects in Gladstone and Townsville.
“2024 is shaping up to be an important year for the hydrogen industry in Australia, with key policy developments expected from the Australian Government and more hydrogen projects reaching financial investment decisions.
“This event is a key platform to discuss these developments and hydrogen priorities more broadly across the Asia Pacific region, and a valuable opportunity to network, share learnings, progress deals and build partnerships – which are all essential for the emerging hydrogen industry.”
Queensland Minister for Energy and Clean Economy Jobs, Hon Mick de Brenni MP said: “We are proud to host the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit here in sunny Queensland, bringing together experts and decision-makers across the global hydrogen supply chain to collaboratively achieve our collective decarbonisation ambitions.
“As Australia’s most carbon-intensive economy, Queensland has a vital role to play in reducing emissions, and all levels of government will need to play their part.
“Queensland is fast cementing our reputation as Australia’s home of hydrogen and we see a huge opportunity for this technology to help decarbonisation across Queensland’s economy, from agriculture to hard-to-abate sectors including manufacturing, resources, and heavy haulage.
“Our trading partners, particularly those in much of Asia, Europe, and North America are demanding the places they trade with act responsibly, which is why responsible emissions targets are key to creating more jobs in the new industries of the future, like hydrogen, critical minerals, and sustainable aircraft fuel.
“With an abundance of resources, infrastructure, and a strong plan to activate skilled workforces we are on track to be a renewable hydrogen powerhouse working to support our international partners in achieving their hydrogen ambitions, while delivering on Queensland’s 75% emissions reduction targets, and securing regional industries and workforces in a decarbonised global economy.”
Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) Head of Investment and Net Zero Lead Peter Horn said: “Austrade is pleased to support the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition once again in 2024, after the success of the inaugural event last year. It is shaping up to be a big year for the development of the hydrogen industry and we are excited to showcase what is happening here in Australia. Hydrogen offers Australia and our trading partners a distinct opportunity to decarbonise, deliver energy security, and support green economic prosperity.
“The conference will showcase leading hydrogen projects, innovative companies and highlight the government measures that are shaping the industry in the Asia Pacific region. It will bring together global experts and decision makers to drive public and private commercial collaboration in this important sector.”
Sustainable Energy Council (SEC) Managing Director, Chris Hugall said: “SEC is very proud of our partnership with the Australian Hydrogen Council, delivering the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Brisbane with the official support from Austrade and the host state Queensland Government. With the industry rapidly accelerating, we invite the global hydrogen community to join us in September so we can pave the way together towards a sustainable future and explore the limitless potential of hydrogen in the Asia Pacific region.”
