Bridgnorth Aluminium invests £600k in expansion

Bridgnorth Aluminium invests £600,000 in new equipment. The refurbishment of a Schmutz line at the Stourbridge Road facility marks a significant step for Bridgnorth Aluminium. This investment enhances their in-house capabilities for processing thinner gauge materials and positions them for growth in underfloor heating, cooling, and automotive applications.

Bridgnorth Aluminium has committed £600,000 to refurbish a Schmutz line at its Stourbridge Road site, enhancing its capacity to process thinner gauge materials. This strategic investment underlines the company’s ambition to lead in underfloor heating, cooling, and automotive markets. The upgraded equipment will facilitate slitting and winding of thin gauge aluminium reels, catering to clients across Wales, the EU, and the US. Completion of commissioning is expected by March, following the firm’s return to 24/7 operations and the installation of advanced molten metal filtration equipment to improve casting quality.

The investment positions Bridgnorth Aluminium as a global leader in flat rolled aluminium coils, serving sectors such as lithography, packaging, and electrification. Adrian Musgrave, Commercial Director, remarked, “It has been a really positive start to 2026, with export orders up, new domestic clients secured, and some major advancements in capabilities well on the way to being completed.”

Musgrave further highlighted the significance of the Schmutz line in driving a 10% increase in the finishing team, underscoring the company’s commitment to futureproofing its Shropshire factory. The company has also launched a focus group initiative to enhance employee engagement and retention, involving a diverse group of employees who provide feedback on various operational aspects.

Bridgnorth Aluminium’s commitment to community engagement is demonstrated by its participation in the Shropshire Investors in Community scheme, facilitating access to local charities and grassroots organisations. Musgrave added, “We are immensely proud of our heritage, having been a part of the local landscape since the 1950s.”

The company continues to advocate for aluminium as a critical mineral in the UK’s transition to Net Zero, engaging with government and key stakeholders to highlight its importance.
