BorgWarner has announced an expansion of its battery management system programme, partnering with a major global OEM to extend its architecture across more battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle lines. This development underscores the increasing need for adaptable and efficient battery solutions in the evolving automotive landscape. The systems, which have been in production since 2023, will see broader applications starting in 2029, covering additional B-segment and C-segment passenger cars, as well as light commercial vehicles.
The modular design of BorgWarner’s system allows for scalability without a complete redesign, maintaining critical functions such as charge level monitoring, battery health assessment, and passive cell balancing. The architecture is compatible with high-voltage platforms, supporting fast charging and aligning with Automotive Safety Integrity Level D goals. This flexibility and forward compatibility are crucial as OEMs standardise battery enclosures while iterating on software and safety features.
