UK EV charging network operator InstaVolt has opened what they call the largest and most advanced ultra-rapid charging Superhub in the UK, equipped with battery storage and solar power to reduce reliance on the grid.
The hub is strategically located near the A34 and close to junction 9 of the M3, in Winchester, equipped with 44 ultra-rapid chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW of power.
According to Instavolt in a release, the hub is designed to accommodate a wide variety of vehicles and features drive-through bays for larger vehicles and towing setups, extra-long van bays, and dedicated accessible charging spaces to ensure inclusivity for all drivers.
The site is InstaVolt’s first Superhub to integrate an on-site solar farm and battery storage technology. The solar farm will feature 870 solar panels and the site will use a mixture of solar energy, battery storage, and renewable grid power to keep chargers running at optimum capacity.

Integrating solar and battery storage at sites like Winchester Superhub, says Instavolt, reduces reliance on the grid, enabling the build of sites of this scale.
The 4MWh battery storage system allows the site to store and efficiently use renewable energy, ensuring maximum uptime and sustainability.
Commenting in a release was Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt: “The Winchester Superhub isn’t just a charging hub – it’s a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging. As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and with confidence.
“This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy – pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging.
“Above all, we are redefining what EV drivers can expect when they charge, seamless, ultra-rapid, and future-proofed charging that makes the switch to electric easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before.”
