Arriva Shipping to construct dry cargo vessel with 2MW battery hybrid system

Arriva Shipping has entered into an agreement with the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry to construct a new dry cargo vessel with a 2MW battery hybrid system for its fleet.

Sustainable logistics

The vessel, designated with building number SH008, is expected to reduce emissions and energy use while meeting strict environmental regulations and customer demands for efficient logistics. It will have a cargo capacity of 8,000 deadweight tons.

“This investment aligns with our goal of modernizing the fleet and reducing our carbon footprint,” said Sindre Matre, CEO and partner at Arriva Shipping. “SH008 builds on the success of Nor Viking and its hybrid technology, further enhancing our efficiency and sustainability.”

Expanding the fleet

SH008 is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026 and will join its sister vessels, MV Nor Viking (delivered in 2022) and SH007 (due December 2025) to form part of the company’s fleet renewal and growth strategy.
