Another 1 million smart meter modules for Madhya Pradesh
CyanConnode is to supply 983,525 Omnimesh RF AMI modules for Indian state Madhya Pradesh’s smart meter rollout.
The order from Montecarlo Ltd for the smart meter deployment in the city of Jabalpur in the central state’s east, also includes AMI hardware, Omnimesh head-end software and a support and maintenance contract.
The supply of the modules is expected to commence during Q1 of 2023 and the installation of the smart meters to be completed within 30 months. Thereafter, the seven and a half year support and maintenance contract will start.
“While this is our first foray into the smart metering business, we are confident that we will make this a successful case study for other projects,” commented Mrunal Patel, joint MD of Montecarlo, an infrastructure development company and service provider.

The order is CyanConnode’s third in Madhya Pradesh and follows two earlier Omnimesh deployments for the Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran distribution company in Indore.
Those deployments achieved an ROI in just two and a half years, according to a CyanConnode statement.
The new order also follows other recent ones, including an almost 1 million unit order from Genus Power for deployment in the state of Bihar and two orders totalling 300,000 units from Intellismart, the government JV smart meter provider.
In total the order book in India amounts to 3.6 million Omnimesh modules, which provide a sub-GHz, narrowband RF mesh network.
In July 2022, CyanConnode reported that its mesh network had reached the 1 million smart meter connection milestone.
India is currently on a mission under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to replace all 250 million meters with smart prepaid meters by the end of 2025.
Phase one has a target of 100 million replacements by the end of 2023, with a focus on industrial and commercial users, government offices and areas with high losses above 15%.
With approaching 200 million smart meters sanctioned but little more than one-third of these at various stages of tendering or award, more awards are expected.
