aicas launches Edge Device Portal and invites companies to partake

aicas, a provider of embedded software, is pleased to announce the launch of its Edge Device Portal (EDP) and invites customers to join its exclusive pilot programme, “Be an EDP Pioneer”. This initiative offers early access to EDP, a Cloud-based solution designed to streamline the management of Edge applications, and enables participants to trial the portal within their own environment. Benefits include a year of free product usage and dedicated support.

The aicas Edge Device Portal (EDP) is developed to address the complex issues businesses encounter when managing diverse fleets of Edge devices. Until now, keeping heterogeneous systems and devices updated across multiple sites has been a difficult task. EDP simplifies the process of updating and configuring Edge devices via a Cloud-based, unified portal, providing continuous monitoring and optimised operations.

“Edge devices are becoming ever more diverse, and the software running on them is evolving rapidly,” said Johannes M. Biermann, President and COO of aicas. “Managing countless Edge applications across diverse systems is a significant challenge. With over 20 years of experience in Edge software management and 30 million connected devices in the field, we embraced this challenge by creating a solution to easily manage software applications on Edge devices via the Cloud.”

Cloud-based management

This Cloud-based solution offers a centralised control point, ensuring secure management of embedded Edge devices and their software. One key feature of EDP is its ability to update and configure systems flexibly during runtime, avoiding any downtime.

“Connecting embedded systems to Cloud services increases control, transparency, and flexibility. It allows companies to update software in real-time, ensuring continuous operation – a key requirement for industries where business-critical processes cannot be interrupted, such as manufacturing, industrial automation, or real-time traffic management,” explained Dr. James J. Hunt, Co-Founder, CEO and CTO, aicas.

Who can benefit?

The aicas Edge Device Portal is suited to various industries aiming to enhance Edge application management, especially in environments requiring real-time, flexible updates.

  • Industrial automation: Small and medium-sized enterprises in IoT and embedded systems can optimise automation processes, such as robotics and machine learning, by managing applications during runtime without interrupting operations
  • Smart mobility: EDP supports real-time operations in mobility sectors, particularly those involved with 5G infrastructure and mobile operators, ensuring seamless application management in time-sensitive contexts like traffic control
  • Automotive industry: EDP is especially useful for managing in-vehicle applications during testing phases or within internal fleets, ensuring effective software management without disrupting vehicle functions.

Having been certified by AWS, EDP has been validated as reliable software for use with AWS cloud services, further guaranteeing scalability and stability. It will also be available via the AWS Marketplace.

EDP is designed with simplicity and efficiency in mind for technical teams.

“It was important for us to create an easy-to-use tool for configuring, deploying, and operating software within a single centralised portal. Embedded software developers and QA engineers can develop and run deployment tests in just a few steps, significantly reducing manual work and improving software quality,” said Christian Schmidt, Software Engineer at aicas.

This user-friendly approach allows technical teams to concentrate on maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency, rather than on the logistical complexities of manual updates. Additionally, the ability to apply modular updates during runtime ensures no system downtime, enabling teams to build highly dynamic and flexible systems.

Pilot customer program

The “Be an EDP Pioneer” pilot programme offers five companies a distinctive opportunity to trial the new Cloud-based Edge Device Portal (EDP) in their own environments. This initiative grants early and preferential access to EDP, enabling participants to influence its development while benefiting from enhanced application management capabilities.

Participants will gain exclusive access to workshops, integration support, and practical product training. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to directly shape future enhancements of EDP.

Companies interested in joining the pilot programme can apply to secure one of the limited spots before the end of October or contact aicas directly for further details.
