Advantech COM-HPC Size E Extension Scaled Up Performance with AMD EPYC ™ Embedded 8004 Series Processor

Advantech, a leading provider of Embedded IoT computing solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of the SOM-E781, a COM-HPC Size E Extension featuring the AMD EPYC™ Embedded 8004 series processor. Designed for high-performance Edge Server applications, this latest innovation builds on the capabilities of the standard COM-HPC Server Size E.

The COM-HPC Size E Extension delivers server-grade performance with an optimized pin-out that supports up to 572W of board-to-board power. With its EPYC™ Embedded 8004 series processor, the SOM-E781 also supports up to 576GB of memory and 79 PCIe lanes up to Gen5—1.24x more than the standard COM-HPC Server Size E—while maintaining efficient power consumption of max. 200 watts. The SOM-E781 is designed to excel in managing large-scale data processing with support for CXL 1.1 expansion, meeting high-performance computing needs. SOM-E780 offers state of the art remote management and device deployment. Using SOM-RD10 on top adds even more features like remote KVM and IPMI. All this is supported by our SW offering like DeviceOn and the Edge AI SDK.

Ideal for enterprises, healthcare, telecommunications, and mission-critical applications, the SOM-E781 delivers exceptional computing power, design flexibility, and energy efficiency, making it a comprehensive solution for next-generation edge server requirements.

Real Server-Grade Performance with Optimal Power Efficiency

Advantech’s COM-HPC Size E Extension series, powered by the AMD EPYC™ Embedded series processor, offers up to 64 cores and 128 threads, delivering 1.9x the performance of comparable x86 solutions while maintaining efficient power consumption of below 200W for the EPYC™ Embedded 8004 series processor. The SOM-E781 also supports up to 576GB of DDR5 4800MT/s memory, making it ideal for handling multi-tasking data workloads. This high memory capacity helps reduce hardware costs and optimize deployment space, meeting the needs of demanding applications with exceptional efficiency.

Abundant High-Speed Expansion Drives Advanced Computing Resource Efficiency

High-performance Edge Servers rely on high-speed PCIe to support expansion cards such as Network Interface Cards (NICs), Solid-State Drives (SSDs), and graphics cards/FPGA for various applications. Among all the expansion requirements, CXL (Compute Express Link) plays a key role in high-performance Edge Servers. The SOM-E781 features 48 CXL-supported lanes out of its 79 PCIe lanes, enabling advanced capabilities such as memory sharing between system nodes. This enhances computational efficiency, reduces processing time, and allows memory capacity expansion via CXL RAM modules. These features overcome traditional memory limitations, providing increased bandwidth and speed to complement CPU advancements.

Compared to standard COM-HPC Server Size E, the SOM-E781 increases PCIe lanes from 64 to 79 with an optimized pin-out, offering the highest number of PCIe lanes available on the market. This expansion delivers exceptional system flexibility to meet the needs of modern edge computing.

Services Tailored for Edge Servers

Remote monitoring is an essential feature in Edge Servers, and Advantech’s BMC (SOM-RD10) modules are fully compliant with the Open Compute Project’s ‘RunBMC’ specification. This ensures seamless BMC integration, offering a variety of BMC firmware options, reference designs, and module implementation services. In addition to hardware solutions, Advantech provides comprehensive software offerings, including DeviceOn for remote monitoring and control. The Edge AI SDK further supports AI evaluation, development, and deployment on Edge Servers running AI models.

Advantech also delivers validated, ready-to-use operating systems like Windows Server and Ubuntu, simplifying OS adoption for customers and ensuring efficient deployment.

In addition to the SOM-E781, Advantech’s COM-HPC Size E Extension series includes the SOM-E780, equipped with the EPYC™ 7003 series processor, providing customers with various Edge Server deployment options, catering to different stages of their needs.
