AVILOO warranty targets used EV batteries

AVILOO has launched warranty protection for used electric vehicle batteries. The product links independent diagnostics with financial protection, beginning in France and Sweden before a wider European rollout.

AVILOO has launched a battery warranty for used electric vehicles, converting its independent battery diagnostics into a financially backed protection product for dealers, sales platforms, fleet operators, wholesalers, and buyers.

The AVILOO Battery Warranty has been introduced first in France and Sweden, with the United Kingdom, the DACH region, the Netherlands, and Belgium due to follow in August before a wider European rollout. The warranty sits within AVILOO Connect, a digital platform for professional EV remarketing.

Used EV values remain closely tied to traction battery condition, but state of health has often been difficult to assess consistently across vehicle brands, models, and histories. AVILOO’s model places its independent FLASH Test and battery certificate at the centre of the transaction, separating measured battery condition from manufacturer-specific battery management system data.

“The AVILOO Battery Warranty raises the used electric vehicle market to a new level,” said AVILOO CEO Marcus Berger. “For the first time, we are providing the foundation for a warranty based solely on objective, independent measurement data. This builds trust and makes risks calculable.”

The warranty is issued as a separate official document from the battery certificate. While the certificate records the current condition of the traction battery, the warranty adds failure protection against potential defects, giving the used EV transaction a clearer financial mechanism around the vehicle’s highest-value component.

Each vehicle receives an individual state-of-health limit that must not be undercut at a mileage of 20,000 km during the one-year warranty period. If the battery falls below that calculated limit during the warranty period, the buyer receives €3,000 in compensation and a refund of the FLASH Test cost.

AVILOO calculates the threshold using its battery diagnostics database, built up over several years of testing. Swiss Re is supporting the product as reinsurer, giving the warranty an insurance-backed structure rather than leaving dealers to absorb the risk directly.

“With the Battery Warranty, we are setting a new industry standard,” Berger said. “It provides orientation for all market participants, strengthens the decision in favor of electric mobility, and ensures that used EVs are perceived not as a risk, but as a sustainable and trustworthy option for the future.”
