Non-isolated DC-DC converters
TDK Corporation announces the introduction of 12.5A 300W rated models to the i7C series of non-isolated DC-DC converters.
The output voltage of these step-up and step-down converters can be adjusted from 5 to 28V and they accept a wide range input voltage of 9 to 53V.
The converters seamlessly transition from buck to boost mode operation without disruption in performance.
The i7C 12.5A series can be used to derive additional high power outputs from a 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V DC power supply.
When compared with similarly rated isolated DC-DC converters, the i7C offers significantly lower cost, a smaller size and higher efficiency levels. These very compact products are ideally suited for use in medical, communications, industrial, test and measurement, broadcast and portable battery powered equipment.
During light load conditions, the i7C’s control circuitry significantly reduces power consumption. At zero load, the input current draw is typically just 5mA, which can be reduced to around 0.25mA when the remote on-off is used to put the converter into standby.
The low quiescent current allows battery powered equipment to remain functional longer during periods of non-operation.
Three mechanical configurations are available, measuring just 36.8mm wide and 34mm in length. The 12.2mm high open frame model is most suitable for applications requiring a very low profile.
A baseplate version for conduction cooling to a cold plate is 13mm high, and models with an integral heatsink for convection or forced air cooling are 24.9mm high.
The thermal design of the i7C series allows for minimal output de-rating, even with low airflow conditions. The product’s design reduces the need for large external components, saving cost and board space.
Standard features for the i7C series include a trim pin for output voltage adjustment, + remote sense, remote on-off (positive or negative logic), input under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection.
As an option, the full-featured models are equipped with a power good signal, output current monitoring and to minimise system noise, the switching frequency can be synchronised to another model or to an external clock.
All models have safety certification to the IEC/EN 62368-1 and 60950-1 standards, with CE marking to the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.
