Planted launches first plant-based steak in Tesco

Planted has launched its first plant-based steak into Tesco, bringing a steakhouse-quality experience directly to UK consumers.

Following a successful debut and overwhelming demand in European foodservice as well as retail, planted.steak is available in Tesco stores nationwide.

Crafted from soya protein, bean and rice flour, rapeseed oil, and a unique mix of microbial cultures, planted steak offers a premium, high-protein, high-fibre product that is packed with key nutrients such as vitamin B12 and iron. Thanks to a fermentation process, it boasts an authentic umami flavour, setting a new standard for large plant-based cuts in the retail market.

Planted is also further investing in capacity expansion with the addition of a new production facility in southern Germany, which is due to open at the end of April. Based on fermentation technology, the site will become the most modern production facility for plant-based meat in Europe.

Not only consumer health, but also sustainability is at the heart of Planted’s mission; planted.steak produces 97% less CO2 and requires 81% less water compared to traditional beef, aligning with growing consumer demand for environmentally conscious products. Low in saturated fats, it appeals to flexitarians, dedicated plant-based eaters, as well as meat lovers looking for an eco-friendly alternative without compromising on taste or texture.

“Throughout the development process, we worked closely with over 50 chefs to create a plant-based steak that truly stands out for its flavour, texture, and overall eating experience. Our planted.steak is designed to satisfy even the most discerning food lovers, making it a real game changer – not just for us, but for the plant-based industry as a whole,” says Planted co-founder Christoph Jenny. “No other plant-based steak is made solely from natural ingredients, with no additives, while delivering such exceptional juiciness and tenderness.”

planted.steak has an RRP of £4.
