Hispaniola launches the first olive guacamole

La Española, a leading olive brand, will launch Olimole, a guacamole made with olives that combines tradition and innovation by replacing the main ingredient of this Mexican classic, avocado, for another so deeply rooted in the gastronomy of our country on October 21.

The new product, that gives a Mediterranean touch to guacamole, although maintaining the essence of its texture and flavour, constitutes a commitment to the native.

With this novelty, La Española adds to the growing trend in the consumption of increasingly healthier snacks for the appetiser, while providing a different vision of a recipe fully integrated into Spanish society.

Sergio Alberola, general director of La Española says the goal is to offer consumers an alternative to traditional guacamole, adding the characteristic touch and Mediterranean of its gastronomy via olives.

“In its careful preparation, the Olimole includes ingredients such as garlic, onion, lemon juice, salt and cilantro, which they are reminiscent of typical guacamole. The differentiating element lies in the olives, a product local and house brand of La Española,” explains Alberola.

90% of consumers who have tried the Olimole recipe perceive it as ‘a unique product’, according to a survey carried out by the market research agency Origin Insights for Hispaniola. In this same study, 75% of consumers highlighted the intense olive flavour, as well as its creamy texture and gentle.

Spain is one of the main consumers of snacks in Europe, with spending reaching €57.5 per capita per year, as it includes the report ‘A country of snacks’, prepared by Sigma Alimentación. A growing interest in healthy alternatives indicates 14.8% of the population shows a taste for following a healthy diet, according to the consulting firm Kantar.

Alberola says that the growing preference for healthy options in the consumption of snacks is a clear trend in the market.

“The olive is an appetiser that has persisted over time, not only for its flavour, but also for its benefits, being rich in healthy fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre. Therefore, we have decided to go one step further and integrate our star product, the olive, into a innovative format, thus creating our Olimole,” Alberola adds.
