Schneider Electric powers the Birmingham NEC EV charging hub
Schneider Electric has announced that it has installed an integrated eMobility solution to power the charging infrastructure for the EV charging hub at the Birmingham NEC. The end-to-end solution is made up of a range of dedicated power distribution products and solutions, designed to deliver a reliable and sustainable energy source for Europe’s largest public EV charging hub.
Schneider Electric was selected and commissioned by The EV Network, an EV charging infrastructure development company, as part of a landmark project involving multiple contractors to deploy 180 BP Pulse EV charging devices at the Birmingham NEC.
It provided the EV charging infrastructure required to power each of the 180 charging devices and a Starbucks drive-through on the same site. The installation distributes power from the national grid to the site, but it can integrate with microgrids and renewable energy sources, including a solar canopy that is located onsite.
The eMobility proposition provides partners and customers with a comprehensive end-to-end solution made up of medium and low-voltage electrical distribution equipment and smart digital products and services based on its EcoStruxure platform.
The combination of dedicated equipment and digital tools delivers a power supply that is continuously monitored and analysed in real-time to support a highly efficient EV charging infrastructure. eMobility solutions can also support renewable energy sources and microgrids to help manage distribution and support peak and off-peak usage. All managed by software and automation to regulate energy, storage and capacity.
The Birmingham NEC EV charging hub installation includes Schneider Electric’s packaged substations incorporating a set of remote mounted units, transformers and circuit breakers.
