Sealence to establish battery gigafactory in Sardinia

Italian e-powertrain components producer Sealence has revealed it is to establish a facility for the large-scale production of its SafeLi battery. The project – named the SafeLi Giga Factory –is to be located in the Sardinia Region and will support help the company fulfill multi-year orders for its products.

The new project forms a vital part of Sealence’s industrial plan, with the 83kWh SafeLi lithium battery scheduled to be the first product manufactured at the new site. The SafeLi battery features a high discharge power of 240kW and can be charged to 80% using a fast charger in 12 minutes. It weighs 550kg and is currently in production at the company’s pilot plant in Parma, Italy.

To date, Sealence has completed the feasibility study and defined all the specifications for the factory and assembly lines and is currently carrying out site surveys to determine suitable locations for the factory.

The company has also signed an official document with the Sardinia Region – promoted by the regional councilor for planning and budget and vice president of the board, Giuseppe Fasolino – to facilitate mutual assessments on the opportunity to host the factory in the Sardinia Region.
