Smart energy management latest in Iberdrola-AWS partnership
The latest in an ongoing partnership, electric utility Iberdrola has launched a connected energy management solution alongside Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Deloitte, aiming to enable up to 30% in energy savings for consumers.
The companies’ Advanced Smart Assistant is a digital platform, designed to enable consumption at the most economical hourly rates for consumers, adapting to energy while “facilitating electrification and improving the sustainability of the system by seeking the times of greatest renewable production”, stated Iberdrola in a press release.
The announcement is the latest from Iberdrola and AWS, who announced a multi-prong partnership earlier this year.
The platform connects to digital electrical solutions in consumer households, enabling these assets to be managed automatically through artificial intelligence.
Running on the AWS cloud, with Deloitte as service provider, the digital solution aims to reduce smart device energy consumption by 10% to 30%.

The automatic energy management platform from Iberdrola was developed at their Innovation Middle East Centre using AWS artificial intelligence services.
The centre, launched in 2016, specialises in developing innovative digital solutions, states Iberdrola, for renewable energy integration, smart grids and energy efficiency and conservation.
Iberdrola lists EV charging as a prime use case example where, through the platform, charging would be designed to be automatically carried out during the hours with the lowest energy costs for the customer or the lowest emissions in the system.
The solution, they add, would also make it possible to reduce air conditioning consumption by accounting for thermal inertia of the building.
The Advanced Smart Assistant will be offered through Iberdrola’s customer app alongside advanced information and recommendations for consumers.
In March this year, Iberdrola and Amazon announced their global collaboration to support the development of large-scale renewable energy projects and leverage cloud computing technology to enhance digitalisation in the energy transition.
Through the partnership, the renewables major selected AWS as the cloud provider for a digital strategy to support smarter grids, customer engagement and connected clean power, including PPAs signed for projects in Europe, the US and Asia-Pacific.
Development of smart solutions is one of Iberdrola Group’s strategic business lines, which through the Smart Solutions brand expects to reach 40 million contracts with customers worldwide by 2025 with services such as rooftop solar, energy storage, heat pumps and electric mobility, in addition to thermal insulation.
