Applications in the meat industry have to meet particularly high requirements in regard to hygiene. NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will be presenting its comprehensive drive portfolio for the industry at the specialist exhibition IFFA from 14th to 19th May 2022 in Frankfurt. The exhibition highlights include the patented washdown-capable DuoDrive geared motor, the high performance surface treatment nsd tupH as well as the SAFOMI-IEC adapter, a technical innovation for mixing and agitation processes.

nsd tupH surface treatment: An economical alternative to stainless steel
For the industry’s central aspiration – fulfilling the highest hygiene requirements – NORD has developed the surface treatment nsd tupH which makes aluminium almost as corrosion resistant as stainless steel Surfaces treated with nsd tupH are corrosion resistant, resistant to acids and alkalis and can even withstand cleaning processes with high-pressure cleaners and aggressive media. The most important part: This is not a coating, but a surface treatment that creates a protective layer which is permanently bonded to the substrate material. So nothing can detach or flake off. The nsd tupH version is available for most of the aluminium products in the NORD modular drive system, and is therefore ideally suited for hygienically sensitive applications in the food sector.

The DuoDrive can also be delivered with the surface treatment. The innovative and patented geared motor in hygienic wash-down design integrates a high efficiency IE5+ synchronous motor into a single-stage helical gear unit. This not only guarantees a compact size and minimal noise emissions but also high power density and overall high system efficiency. Together with its simple plug-and-play commissioning, the complete DuoDrive solution results in a significant reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to other drive systems.
NORD has developed the SAFOMI-IEC adapter specifically for agitators. If it is used for an agitator drive instead of a standard IEC adapter, a higher operational reliability and less maintenance will be achieved. However, its main advantage is an integrated oil expansion volume. Therefore, oil tanks and hoses as well as the radial shaft seal, which is subject to leakage and wear between gear unit and IEC cylinder, are not required. SAFOMI is available for MAXXDRIVE ® helical gear units in sizes 7 to 11 and covers maximum output torques from 25 to 75 kNm. The compact combination of a MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear unit, the SAFOMI IEC adapter and a drive motor is the best choice for mixer and agitator applications to reduce wearing parts and attached components.
