£17M Sellafield earthworks contract awarded
The Programme and Project Partners at Sellafield have confirmed Keltbray has secured the contract to deliver a major earthworks package.
Keltbray, a leading specialist construction engineering and infrastructure services provider, has secured the contract, which will see the company deliver a development platform in preparation for the follow-on construction of Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1), a PPP-led project within Intermediate Level Waste East Zone.
Keltbray will also provide a new access road and drainage to the LSS1 site and temporary utility supplies to both the LSS1 construction plot and the adjacent temporary accommodation plot.
The delivery of the contract, valued at £17 million, is the first major contract secured by Keltbray on key infrastructure projects at the Sellafield site.
The former nuclear-power-generating and nuclear-waste-reprocessing site at Sellafield includes a diverse range of more than 200 nuclear facilities and over 1,000 buildings. The PPP framework covers around 25 major decommissioning projects with work packages let to delivery partners like Keltbray, under NEC contracts.
David Sloyan, Operations Director at Keltbray, said: “Winning this contract represents major strategic progress for Keltbray, and we are delighted to have been selected for the work after a rigorous tendering process. Through this early engagement, we have been able to consistently prove we can provide working solutions to nuclear industry challenges across the UK, and we will again showcase the capabilities of our fantastic team through this contract with PPP for Sellafield Limited.”
As the first model of its kind, the Programme and Project Partnership is working collaboratively with Sellafield Ltd to achieve excellent large-scale projects, supporting Sellafield Ltd’s purpose of creating a clean and safe environment for future generations.
The Programme and Project Partners is creating new partnerships and new opportunities as part of this drive to deliver the major projects, opening vibrant opportunities throughout the supply chain, economy and local communities.
John Rossiter, head of supply chain at Programme and Project Partners, said: “As we welcome another industry leading infrastructure organisation to PPP, contract awards such as this demonstrate the value of the PPP model and the breadth of expertise we are bringing together within our growing supply chain to achieve our shared goals.
“I look forward to Keltbray integrating into the project delivery team and successfully delivering this critical project, which supports PPP in delivering the Sellafield Ltd mission.”
