Artificial intelligence and machine learning for electric motors

~ WEG hosts digital event on smart motor maintenance ~

Global motor manufacturer, WEG will host its webinar on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Electric Motors on March 23, 2022, at 11.00 to 13.00 (GMT). The digital event has been developed for engineers to explore how Industry 4.0 can be applied to motors through digital tools to improve motor reliability, productivity and availability. You can register for the event here.

The webinar will be hosted by Industry 4.0 expert, Trenton Roncato Juraszek, a Mechanical Project Analyst based at WEG’s headquarters in Brazil. Juraszek is a specialist in WEG Motor Scan® and Motion Fleet Management — digital tools for application analysis and predictive maintenance of electric motors.

According to the International Society of Automation, downtime causes an average loss of five per cent of productivity in industry. In fact, the research suggests some experience as much as 20 per cent.

WEG Motor Scan® and Motion Fleet Management have beendeveloped to help engineers avoid downtime due to motor failure and accelerate Industry 4.0 through the connectivity of industrial assets. WEG Motor Scan® is a physical device that works as a sensor to monitor motor performance. The tool can connect through a smart device, either on Android, iOS or through a web platform, and identify any abnormalities in motor performance.

“Unlike traditional motor performance analysis, WEG Motor Specialist takes this data, and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate the decision-making process for maintenance,” explained Marek Lukaszczyk, Marketing Manager for WEG Europe and Middle East. “The tool takes the data and, using algorithms to analyse the motor, gives relevant information for predative maintenance and performance efficiencies. This information can be used to minimise downtime and improve application efficiencies helping to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).”

“Maintenance is critical to the life of electric motors, directly affecting industrial productivity and operating costs. Hence the importance of implanting preventive processes, not only corrective ones,” explained Juraszek. “After all, the motor hardly breaks without warning. With WEG Motor Scan, these symptoms can be identified through periodic monitoring of the equipment and its vibration, temperature, and operating hours.”

During the webinar, WEG will explore how these technologies play a critical role in improving motor performance. Crucially, Juraszek will also explain how these tools use advanced technologies, like artificial intelligence and machine learning, to continually improve motor maintenance and efficiencies over time.

The digital event will be held on March 23, 2022 at 11.00 to 13.00 (GMT), but you are welcome to attend from anywhere in the world. You can register for the event online and find out more about WEG’s digital technologies here.
